Do YOU want to Take Control of Your Future?!?!

I decided almost 7 months ago to take a chance, step out of my comfort zone and become a Team BeachBody Coach.  I was a little skeptical at first, but I was following a GREAT leader, Jenelle Summers, I knew she would help guide me in the right direction, plus I was in love with an awesome BeachBody workout that has worked for me and is continuing to work - I am a product of the product!  I was already telling people about my great success and refering them to the website, so why not get paid to do it?

I have to admit it took some great organizational skills and making to-do lists, but thats proven to be a good thing, right?  I starting writing down people I knew and then I moved on to social networking and I got involved in their day to day conversations - made personal connections and interacted with them! Soon I had people coming to me and asking what I was doing to lose weight and asking exactly what BeachBody was....

I have had success, not because I am a sales person or I can talk people into things, but because I made connections and related to people on a personal level outside of fitness and BeachBody... Its so much more than getting a sale, I have met and would still love to meet some of my awesome BeachBody family - Summit 2011 here I come! I have grown a team of coaches that are amazing and continue to amaze me every week with the things they are accomplishing!!!!!  I am able to pass down the knowledge I have gained and help guide them to a successful business as well...Its all about helping the people under me because I am not successful without their success!  I want to see my coaches grow with confidence!  This is so important to me and I know the coaches above me!
Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others...Unsuccessful people are always asking "whats in it for me?" - Brian Tracy

Going for GOLD baby!!!

That's right, I am going to follow what has been tugging on my heart, mind, conscience, spirit, everything possible!  It is time to announce I am going to be bustin' it to become an APD for Chalene Johnson's company - Powder Blue Productions!!!

I taught my first Turbo Kick class last night, the room was packed and I was totally not expecting that...I was hoping to get 5 people, but no, there were over 25!  Only 1 person out of the whole group had ever tried Turbo before and she said I was so much fun and loved how I brought the energy.  I heard other people saying "I like her, she is fun" - what a huge compliment considering it was my very 1st class to teach, just think how much better it is going to be.  I felt it last night after class, on my 40 minute drive home, it was like it was almost weighing on me....I HAVE to go for it, trying to be an APD for the company I am already in love with and love the formats and everything they believe in and have to offer, so why not?!?!

How do I know after only teaching 1 class??? I just do, its in me, its in my heart and mind, I can feel it - like a ton of bricks just knocked me over! LOL

If you have any idea of becoming a group x instructor and already LOVE Chalene's formats - go for it, take the plunge and make it happen.  I started Turbo Jam 6 months ago and now I have taken the steps to become a Beach Body coach, Turbo Kick certified, Hip Hop Hustle certified, going to All-Star Presenter Camp in a month, actually TEACHING Turbo Kick, and now....wanting to chase down that dream and goal of working for an amazing company!  I have had nothing but blessings along the way!  I am not saying it was always easy, but once you jump over and accomplish hurdle after hurdle - you have such an awesome "high" like you are on top of the world! Now I look back and wonder why I was always afraid to just "do something" besides sitting and waiting around for "something to happen" - I am not a wisher, I am a do-er now!!

I motivate everyone to do the same! What are your goals?

practicing for my Turbo Kick classes

I finally had the courage to go audition for my Turbo Kick classes.  I went to HT Fit and interviewed and I think they are more excited (if possible) than I am that I start teaching TK at their gym.  I am going to start teaching classes Monday June 14th at 6pm and then again on Wednesday.  They put me at the prime time of the gym hours, so it would be like a pilot class almost - just to see how well I do and how people will respond! I am so ready to have my own classes and to show the Turbo love!

This Monday the 7th of June, I am going to be doing FREE classes at the local Elementary school gym at 12:30pm (so if you are local email me!!!).  Summer school teachers are going to be at the school until 12 everyday and they wanted something that was flexible with their schedule and was simple to just change and walk to the gym.  I am going to shoot for 3-4 days a week, so everyone can have the opportunity to make it to a class....especially since the gym I will be teaching at is about a 30 minute drive out of town.

We are going to sweat, laugh, shake it, and have an AWESOME time!  So bring your towels (to dry sweat off with - yes we will definitely sweat), lots of water and a HUGE smile!  This will be a rockin good time!

Decide.Commit.Succeed

Have you ever wondered why you lose or gain 3 pounds within 3 days and dont know what you really changed in your diet or exercise, but the scale is saying differently?  When you buy a fitness program, especially a BeachBody workout program, the goal is not to see the scale go down, but to increase the ratio of lean muscle to stored fat.  This does not mean "losing weight" - it means you are trimming that fat and increasing your muscle mass for a toned and lean look.  Muscle definitely weighs more than fat, so as your ration of lean mass to fat changes, you will shrink and lose inches, but at the same weight.  Diets that promise a quick weightloss tend to promote dehydration...so sure you might lose a lot of water weight - but once you rehydrate the scale with show a weight gain.  Also, when you start reducing your calorie intake drastically, your body wants to go into starvation mode.  Your body needs fuel for a healthy metabolism, so if you start "starving" yourself your body will store and get its fuel from your fat...NOT GOOD and its the complete opposite from what you want to do.  So here are some tips to help you have a healthy diet, dont go on a diet - have a diet!

Here are 6 steps to help transform your body:
  • CONTROL YOUR PORTIONS
    • Dont eat until you are stuffed, eat until you are not hungry!
In general eat half of what you are prepared in a restaurant.  An adequate portion is about 3 ounces of protein (about the size of your palm).  And dont overload on salad dressing - use just enough to taste!  On a large salad 1 or 2 tablespoons is enough.
  • PAY ATTENTION TO EVERYTHING YOU EAT
Keep a food journal!!!  I started using http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ and I have an APP on my iPhone as well as an account on my laptop.  Every calorie counts!  What you eat has a direct effect on everything you do, from the way your body works to your mood to the amount of fat your body burns or stores.  No matter how much you are working out, if you are not making wise food choices, you will NOT see that layer of padding around your waist or thighs disappear!  Here are some rules for choosing food:

-Use fresh veggies to replace processed foods
-Skinless white meat is generally a better choice, rather than red meat
-Egg whites has less fat than whole eggs
-When looking at a plate of food you think is high in fat (like pizza) or carbs (like pasta), eat half the helping you would normally eat.  Do not overeat.
-Choose low-density, high-fiber foods whenever possible
  • BE CONSISTANT
    • Have a 5x-a-day eating schedule
To succeed, it's very important to follow a consistant eating schedule.  Consistency will actually give you a profound sense of control over your world, and it will also assure 2 things:
  1. You wont get over-hungry - which keeps you from overeating the next meal and
  2. You will encourage an increase in your metabolism (thats what you want to happen!!)
This doesnt mean eat 24 hours a day all day long! - HAHA...this eating schedule means you DO need to eat breakfast and you DO need to stop eating 3 hours prior to bedtime.  If you are hungry right before bedtime, drink ice cold water and enjoy the fact while you are sleeping you will have 8 full hours of solid fat burning!  Get your body on a schedule, going to bed feeling hungry will put you on a schedule and you will wake up ready for your morning shakeology or whatever breakfast you eat.
  • HYDRATE AND CLEANSE
    • Drink water - at least 2 liters a day or 8 glasses of water.
Most people dont do this, but it is very important and works in conjunction with supplements, improved food intake, and exercise - water is the catalyst to flushing out the bad stuff and keeping your body healthy!  Balancing your eating schedule with lots of water is a very manageable routine.  Also, it is said that drinking icey cold water burns more calories because your body has to warm it up!  Just a thought! :)
  • FORTIFY YOUR DIET WITH A MULTIVITAMIN
When you diet and exercise hard your body can easily suffer from vitamin deficiencies.  Most nutritionists believe that multivitamins are absolutely essential, especially for active individuals because its difficult to get enough nutrients from your diet alone.  ActiVit multivitamins is an awesome daily vitamin - but another source is SHAKEOLOGY...there are over 70 ingredients and have all the nutrients and vitamins you need daily.  Plus you can drink more than one of those YUMMY shakes a day!  Shakeology improves stamina, energy, metabolism and promotes healthy weightloss and digestive systems.
  • REFRAIN FROM EATING AT ALL THE WRONG TIMES
Don't eat right before you workout or go to bed!!  Your body needs to be in "fat-burning" mode when it looks for energy.  Avoiding energy bars and sports drinks right before your workout is a good idea because they can encourage your body's "carb-burning" mode instead!  Your insulin levels do not be too high while working out, you want your body in "semi-fasting" state, meaning you are working out with little food in your digestive system.  For hydration use water instead of sports drinks.  So if you limit your carbs before exercise and before sleep, your body has more time to function as an effective fat-burning machine!

WHO is your inspiration?

When you think of someone who inspires you to do better or be more, who is the first person that pops into your head?  I know a lot of people with say their children and husband, believe me they are the reasons I want to succeed for sure...  But do you have someone that you look up to and you want to follow in their footsteps?  I have NEVER felt as though I had a "mentor" or someone I could say, "hey you are the person I want to learn from and grow" until I started working out.  Ok, ok, say I am cheesy and goofy, but I am being honest!  I was the girl that had no real goals and just went with the flow and "wished" or "hoped" I would have a bright future, but never did anything about it to secure a successful future for myself and my family.

My inspiration and mentor is Chalene Johnson.

First I started with ordering Turbo Jam late one night because I was bored and wanted to get my butt in shape for the first time in 6 years.... I fell in love and wanted more!  Then, Jenelle Summers (Chalene Johnson's sister) introduced me to Beach Body over Twitter!  I never knew fitness could be FUN and something I would actually like learning about.  I might not be the best at being a Team Beach Body coach, but I love doing it, I love being a product of the product, I love connecting with people on so many levels - not just about fitness, but about everything and anything!

Second, I took a leap and I am talking more of a huge jump across the freakin ocean to take a Turbo Kick Instructor training!  Not just the pro training to test out my skills, but the instructor training - and I LOVED it! I had a feeling it would be in my blood to be a group fitness instructor, heck my mom was for a while when she was my age, but it was more of a jazzercise type class - eek! lol  Now, I am taking a Hip Hop Hustle training at the end of this month and I am so pumped about it.  I get to bust a move like I do at the clubs, how cool is that?  I just ordered some new TurboKick wear too and I am going to be doing some MAJOR shirt shredding this weekend so I can look the part!  Next is All-Star Presenters camp this summer, I want to be an amazing instructor, not the same joe blow that can walk into any club and do, but I want to be fun, funky and fresh!  PIYO will be in my future as well, just not sure when tho....

Third - Even tho Chalene doesnt know me besides seeing my tweets and me reading hers - I feel like she is in my car with me while listening to audio or in my living room while working out!  My husband thinks I am a nut!  I read her books and the books she recommends!  I listen to all the audio I can to become the best mom, sister, wife, daughter - everything I can be!  I know I will never be perfect, always a work in progress but I can strive for the best!

One day I will meet her and I will be nervous and dorky and everything in between!  Hopefully I can make it to Summit 2011 and shake my ass at the Diamond reception with her! :)  But until then Twitter it is!

Turbo Kick

WOW, what an awesome experience I had on Saturday.... Going to a Turbo Kick training is something I will NEVER forget, not to mention the people I met!  I might not have been the best, but I had FUN and to me that means more than anything.  I cant wait until I have the chance to teach my own classes.

My early morning didnt start out so hot, around 1:30am I woke up with a huge migraine headache and it made me sick, I just knew I was sick from something I ate the night before and was worried it was going to effect my training.  I stayed awake until 4am and had to be awake around 6am... I dont know how, but by some miracle and by the grace of God I was up and ready at 6am, ate my oatmeal (apples and cinnamon - my favorite) and was out the door around 7:15am.  I put in some upbeat music for a little while and then I listened to Brian Tracy for some motivational words before my training started.  I walked in at the University of Texas Rec Center, a little nervous but more excited to meet Melissa and everyone else - I felt like I was going to cheerleading camp haha.

I had only ever done Turbo Kick Rounds 28 and 29 and was anxious to see what we were going to be doing that day - well it wasnt 28 or 29 - it was 39!!! hahaha...I was nervous I was going to be the only one who didnt know all the moves and would look like I had 2 left feet, but it was cool because everyone there was in the same position as me and they might have done 39 before, but we were all having a BLAST.

We did a group exercise and each group had a section of TK to do, we had kicks and our group did great, I even jumped on the mic and lead the entire group there - of course it wasnt perfect and I was nervous and messed up, but it was nice to get that feel of what it will be like when I start teaching somewhere.  We took our tests and were free to leave at the end of the day.  I walked out of there feeling awesome!  I had 11 rounds of TK in my hands to learn and some totally CUTE CUTE CUTE outfits.

I knew right when I got home I wanted to do Hip Hop Hustle and learn that workout as well...so thats my next big thing coming up next month on May 23rd with Melissa again.  The day before she is doing another Turbo training and I am just going to go and do the Master class and get some more practice in a group setting! :)

Oh and I didnt mention but Sunday I woke up and I was soooo sore! LOL.  I am so much better today, but I have been doing my workouts and stretching to get the soreness out, but I couldnt believe how sore I was...all worth it tho!

Just my thoughts...

Today has been a day of thinking.... I feel like my mind was totally in deep thought all day even if it didnt seem that way to others, I definitely was...

First I want to start off by saying fat and weight loss are not easy for most people out there trying to lose body fat and weight and have a healthy lifestyle. Lets be honest for a second you must make better nutritional choices and you have to get off your butt more often than running to the refrigerator, walking to the mailbox or looking for the remote.  This includes me, I have to work at it every day to maintain a healthy lifestyle, fuel my body with only the best nutritional choices as I also help others achieve their goals.

Sorry guys, but there are no magic pills, no magic diets, and no ab blasters will help you and your body lose fat. Thats too easy and if its that easy, then why is the U.S. so over weight?  Check out this article http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/trends.html#State you will be completely shocked and my mission is to help make a difference, even if it is only in 1 person, its a difference - we should all think about this!

Fat and weight loss is about the ratio of calories in vs. calories out. Simple right???  Well, most people think ok, if I eat 800 calories a day and workout 3 hours a day I will drop weight fast and get uber skinny...sure you might, but you will end up plateauing and gaining all, if not more weight back.  It means eat sensibly, have 5-6 smaller meals per day to balance the blood sugars, that will also keep the metabolism stoked, and exercise on a regular basis, which should include strength training to maintain and develop lean muscle mass. This too helps boost your metabolism.  Muscle is what burns the most calories - not eating stores fat and calories because you body has to "feed" off something to fuel it.  It is a scientific fact that when your calorie count suddenly drops, your body will compensate for the fact and your metabolism will slow down. As a result, you'll need fewer calories to maintain your weight. This is why so many people can lose weight quick at first and then no matter how hard they try they just cant! This is one of the most dangerous myths in the weight loss world. You literally have to eat yourself thin, not starve yourself thin.

Know your body...know your BMR, know how many calories a day you have to consume in order to achieve your weight loss goals...by doing this you will achieve!

Count your calories, its so simple...I have an app on my iphone and there are websites as well that can help track your calorie intake!  DONT skip meals!  Drink a meal replacement shake, like Shakeology because you are guaranteed a healthy, full of nutrition and vitamins meal a day if you drink one!

Also, lift weights, HEAVY weights 3 times a week - build those muscles, you have to...it's so important to have lean muscle mass in order to lose body fat the right way!  I am learning this as well and I am trying to lift more often than not.  A lot of women complain they will bulk up...you wont, know your limits and you will have those sculpted muscles every woman dreams of having! I am on that journey now and would HIGHLY suggest ChaLean Extreme workout dvd's!

April 17th - MY BIG DAY

In exactly 16 days I am going to my first Turbo Kick Training class...wow, I am PUMPED man! I can't believe I am going to be joining the Powder Blue family soon! By the way, if you didnt know, that is Chalene Johnson's company (creator of TurboJam, ChaLean Extreme and coming soon TURBOFIRE) and yes, I am getting trained by one of her presenter's - whoa super psyched!

So, let me break it down for a sec and tell you my ultimate goal...Because since becoming a Team Beach Body Coach and working out, I have realized to get where I am going I HAVE to make daily lists and goals and plans so I can see it and have a "due date" in which I want it accomplished, just an FYI you dont have to be a coach or motivator to do these things, its just a great habit, you should try it out sometime, its great.

I love my job working at the hotel and I want to teach Turbo Kick and hopefully I can get certified in Hip Hop Hustle sometime in the near future as well, but anyway, I want to teach at a Hotel Fitness Club/Resort! I know some people are saying, the pay isnt that great, but people its not always about the check, its about doing what I love and what I am passionate about and I have found it, this is it guys!!!! I havent set a time frame on the hotel thing yet, because I know that is something I have to be well qualified for, so of course I have to start small and work my way up! I am sure intructors and trainers at a hotel fitness center/club house have to be certified in more than just Turbo Kick, lol...

My husband is thinking I should get a business plan together and have my own gym, I dont know about all that - I havent thought that far ahead!

Now, I am hunting for the sickest workout attire everrrr! I have ordered some from TurboWear.com and there is some super fun stuff there and I have also checked out sandiegofit.com and found some cute clothes!

I have been reading and listening and reading and listening to audio tapes getting me ready for this leap of faith I am taking. Brian Tracey is AMAZING, google him and read or listen to his stuff..he knows whats up, seriously. I have also ordered Chalene's books on form and cueing and basically how to make your workout class a party and fun...so much insight and information I have to learn, but it will all workout, even tho I will have plenty of mess-ups...we all do!

Anyway, thats my big plan I have coming up soon..I cant wait for it all to get going...someone please tell me to be patient, lol

30 WORST Sandwiches in America

I found an article online at http://www.menshealth.com/ that put together some of the worst sandwiches you can eat in America today! I was shocked on some of these, because I have gone to several of these places before thinking I am getting something that isnt high in calories or fat because "its a sandwich" wow - I was in for a surprise! Thank Mens Health!  Check it out...

30. WORST LUNCH SANDWICH FROM ARBY’S

Ultimate BLT Market Fresh Sandwich

779 calories
45 g fat (11g saturated)
1,571 mg sodium

This isn’t even the worst of the Market Fresh Sandwiches; the Pecan Chicken Salad weighs in at a hefty 870 calories. The lesson? Trust the ingredients, not the name. “Market Fresh” is little more than a marketing ploy to persuade consumers to indulge without guilt. Opt for the Bacon Cheddar Roastburger instead. Arby’s roast beef sandwiches are all relatively safe, and unless you order double meat, not one of the Roastburgers exceeds 500 calories.

29. WORST BREAKFAST SANDWICH FROM ARBY’S

Ham, Egg & Cheese Wrap

575 calories
31 g fat (10 g saturated)
2,005 mg sodium

Ever since wraps became erroneously associated with healthy eating, restaurants have been slowly beefing up the amount of cheese and sauce they stuff inside. The reasoning is simple: The perception of health might make you test it out, but the surreptitious loads of fat and salt will keep you coming back for more. Opt for a croissant instead. Croissants make a surprisingly decent foundation for a breakfast sandwich, but the same rules still apply: Keep the bacon to garnishlike levels, and avoid sausage when possible

28. WORST SANDWICH FROM ATLANTA BREAD COMPANY

Bistro Chicken Press Sandwich

780 calories
41 g fat (11 g saturated)
1,660 mg sodium

This sandwich is lined with pesto, which ordinarily we approve of for its load of healthy fats. Unfortunately, here that pesto is muddled with an aggressive application of mayo, bloating this into the fattiest chicken sandwich on the menu. To contrast, ABC’s Chicken Waldorf is what chicken salad would be if it were dreamed up by a nutritionist. This version uses a minimal amount of mayonnaise and leans on antioxidant-rich fillers like cranberries, apples, and walnuts

27. WORST SANDWICH FROM AU BON PAIN

Prosciutto Mozzarella Sandwich

780 calories
40 g fat (16 g saturated)
2,270 mg sodium

Au Bon Pain’s sandwiches tend to suffer from serious sodium overload, so adding ĂĽbersalty prosciutto only exacerbates the problem. Even sans sides, this thing eats through almost your entire day’s sodium requirement. Go for the Thai Chicken Wrap. Most of Au Bon’s sandwiches hover around 700 calories (including a number of their meat-free options), but you’ll beat the average every time with this one.

26. WORST SANDWICH FROM BAJA FRESH

Chicken Quesadilla

1,330 calories
80 g fat (27 g saturated)
2,590 mg sodium

Quesadillas are second only to nachos in terms of belt-breaking potential. There’s not one on the menu—not even the veggie quesadilla—with fewer than 1,200 calories. Try a torta. Tortas are Mexican sandwiches loaded with grilled or braised meat, avocado, salsa, and other fresh fixings. At Baja, it’s one of your best bets for a decent entrĂ©e. Order this one without the side of chips, and you’ll cut 240 calories off your meal.

25. WORST SANDWICH FROM BLIMPIE

Roast Beef & Cheddar Wrap

684 calories
36 g fat (12 g saturated-
1,928 mg sodium

Here’s a secret most sandwich shops would rather not tell you: Wraps carry more starchy carbohydrates than regular breads do. Guess that puts an end to the myth of the “healthy wrap.” Roast beef doesn’t have the same lean reputation as turkey and chicken, but in truth, most cuts are nearly as reliable as either of those poultry choices. Feel free to make it the anchor of any sandwich you order.

24. WORST SANDWICH FROM BOSTON MARKET

Classic Chicken Sandwich

800 calories
41 g fat (7 g saturated)
1,900 mg sodium

It’s not surprising to find a load of fat in a chicken salad sandwich. It’s built around a deluge of sticky mayonnaise, after all. What’s shocking is the egregious load of trans fat. We still can’t figure out how they managed to squeeze twice the daily limit into one little sandwich. The Dark Chicken Individual Meal makes for a pretty well-balanced meal by providing a load of protein with relatively few carbohydrates. Just take it easy with the saltshaker—sodium is the one area where Boston Market’s chicken falls flat.

23. WORST LUNCH SANDWICH FROM BURGER KING

Tendercrisp Chicken Sandwich

800 calories
46 g fat (8 g saturated)
1,640 mg sodium

Don’t let trifling terms like “tender” distract you from more telling terms like “crisp,” which is a fast-food euphemism for deep-fried. Not even the Whopper with cheese has this many calories. Go straight for the tenders themselves; these are some of the lowest-calorie fried chicken pieces in the treacherous world of fast food. Their only decent rivals are the nuggets at Chick-fil-A.

22. WORST BREAKFAST SANDWICH FROM BURGER KING

Sausage and Cheese BK Breakfast Shots

420 calories
31 g fat (10 g saturated)
910 mg sodium

Sausage is the clear loser in the battle of the breakfast meats. The sooner you learn to skip it, the sooner you can start dropping pounds. Go straight for the Ham Omelet Sandwich. You won’t find a better breakfast sandwich at any fast-food window in the country.

21. WORST SANDWICH FROM THE CHEESECAKE FACTORY

Grilled Chicken and Avocado Club

1,752 calories
28 g saturated fat
2,309 mg sodium

Who would have guessed that a dish with a name like this could pack more calories than 11 scoops of Breyers All Natural Mint Chocolate Chip? Skip sandwiches entirely. The “lightest” on the menu is the 1,052-calorie Grilled Cheese. Go for the Factory Burger. Surprisingly, this is one of the best burgers offered at any sit-down restaurant in America, and so long as you swap out the fries for something healthier, it’s also one of the safest entrĂ©es you’ll find on Cheesecake Factory’s misguided menu.

20. WORST SANDWICH FROM CHICK-FIL-A

Chicken Caesar Cool Wrap

480 calories
16 g fat (7 g saturated)
1,810 mg sodium

Chick-fil-A joins two of the most overrated “health” foods—wraps and Caesar salad—into one handheld package. At some establishments, it would still be a “this,” but at Chick-fil-A, it's one of the worst items on the menu. Most chicken clubs suffer from at least one of three major blights: mayonnaise, breading, or bacon overload. Thankfully the Chargrilled Chicken Club Sandwich avoids all, making it the only club sandwich we've seen with fewer than 500 calories.

19. WORST SANDWICH FROM COSI

Chicken TBM Sandwich

722 calories
40 g fat
845 mg sodium

This version of three classic flavors—tomatoes, basil, and chicken—will saddle you with an extra 212 calories and more than double the fat of its pesto-paved relative. The Tuscan Pesto Chicken Sandwich harnesses the powers of pesto and sun-dried tomatoes, which collectively bring big flavor and plenty of healthy fat to the table. Both ingredients rely on olive oil, an excellent source of blood- and brain-boosting monounsaturated fats.

18. WORST SANDWICH FROM CULVER’S

North Atlantic Cod Fillet Sandwich

663 calories
41 g fat (7 g saturated)
979 mg sodium

Here’s a new rule to live by: Fish stops being seafood as soon as it gets battered and fried. After that, it’s no better than the grease it was cooked in. However, the burgers at Culver’s are some of the best you’ll find anywhere. Any single burger you order—so long as it doesn’t have bacon on it—will have fewer than 500 calories. Now if only they could figure out how to cut the gram of trans fat from their patties.

17. WORST SANDWICH FROM DUNKIN’ DONUTS

Chicken Parmesan Flatbread

480 calories
22 g fat (7 g saturated)
1,220 mg sodium

What's the point of using low-calorie flatbread if you're just going to stuff it with fried chicken and cheese? Sadly, Dunkin's chicken sandwiches only get worse from here. The flatbread cohort offers some pretty reliable options. All of them come with a hefty dose of protein, and only one—the Chicken Parm—has more than 400 calories.

16. WORST SANDWICH FROM HARDEE’S

Charbroiled Chicken Club Sandwich

560 calories
30 g fat (8 g saturated)
1,430 mg sodium

What goes into a club at Hardee’s? Cheese, bacon, and mayonnaise—the unholy trinity of sandwich toppings. Try the Little Thick Cheeseburger, instead. With this burger, Hardee’s has achieved what so many other restaurants fail to do: Create a quarter-pound cheeseburger with fewer than 500 calories. Remember this the next time you have a hankering for red meat.

15. WORST SANDWICH FROM HOOTERS

Smothered Chicken Sandwich

800 calories

It’s not just fried and “crispy” chicken you need to watch for; even the straight grilled stuff often comes at an unexpectedly high caloric price. Truth is, this is nothing more than a chicken cheese steak with 200 mystery calories tacked on. Go for the Philly Cheese Steak instead. Yes, it’s hard to believe that a steak sandwich beats out a chicken sandwich, but we’ve seen stranger things at chain restaurants. Truth is, nearly half of this sandwich’s heft comes from a rewarding trio of onions, peppers and mushrooms, and if Hooters is using sirloin here (as many cheesesteak slingers do), then they’ve nailed the recipe for a solid sandwich.

14. WORST SANDWICH FROM JIMMY JOHN’S

Italian Night Club

951 calories
51 g fat (12 g saturated)
2,166 mg sodium

Most traditional cured Italian meats (think salami, pepperoni, and capicola) are utterly packed with fat and salt. Stick to the more common toppers—turkey, ham, chicken, and roast beef—and avoid exotic-sounding meats. Try a Big John with grey poupon (instead of the traditional bread-buckling load of mayonnaise) to bring the sandwich to an even more admirable 349 calories.

13. WORST SANDWICH AT KFC

Crispy Twister

580 calories
30 g fat (7 g saturated)
1,250 mg sodium

The crispy chicken is not the only problem here—there’s also a heft of carbs in the tortilla and a load of fat in the “pepper mayo sauce” to worry about. Not even Original Recipe chicken can drop this thing below 500 calories. Opt for the KFC Snackers Honey BBQ instead, which is the leanest of all KFC’s Snackers.

12. WORST SANDWICH AT LONG JOHN SILVER’S

Fish Sandwich

470 calories
23 f fat (5 g saturated)
1,210 mg sodium

The American Heart Association recommends keeping your trans fat intake below 1 percent of your total calories. How does this sandwich fare? Not well: 9 percent of its calories come in the form of the dangerous oil. The rule at Long John Silver’s is that if the fish isn’t grilled, it just isn’t safe. Go for the Grilled Pacific Salmon instead. Salmon has more omega-3 fats than any other fish in the sea, and it hasn’t been dipped in LSJ’s trans-fatty frying oil. That means you’re swapping out the world’s worst fats for the world’s best.

11. THE WORST LUNCH SANDWICH AT MCDONALD’S

Grilled Chicken Club Sandwich

530 calories
17 g fat (6 g saturated)
1,410 mg sodium

Mayonnaise and bacon destroy any benefit you might have earned by ordering this sandwich grilled instead of crispy. Go for the McDouble instead. This new addition to the Dollar Menu is the best double burger we’ve encountered, and even if you decide to add extra cheese, you’re only looking at a 50-calorie tariff

10. THE WORST BREAKFAST SANDWICH AT MCDONALD’S

McSkillet Burrito with Sausage

610 calories
36 g fat (14 g saturated)
1,390 mg sodium

Outside of the disastrous Deluxe Breakfasts, this is the single worst item on the morning menu. Start your day this way and you’ll have just 6 grams of saturated fat and 1,000 milligrams of sodium to negotiate with the rest of the day. Go for the Egg McMuffin with hash browns and coffee, instead. A nice balance of protein, fats, and carbs makes the McMuffin one of our all-time favorite breakfast sandwiches.

9. THE WORST SANDWICH AT PANERA

Chipotle Chicken on Artisan French Bread

1,020 calories
57 g fat (20.5 g saturated)
1,900 mg sodium

Panera’s Signature Sandwich menu houses some of the biggest gutbombs in the entire restaurant, so minimize the damage by sticking to the CafĂ© sandwiches. With the bulk of Panera’s sandwiches floating in the 700- to 900- calorie range, the Chicken Bacon Dijon on French Bread emerges in the lead as the clear winner. Just be sure to watch your sodium intake for the rest of the day.

8. THE WORST SANDWICH AT QUIZNOS

Prime Rib Cheesesteak Sandwich

670 calories
41 g fat (10 g saturated)
1,085 mg sodium

Quiznos relies heavily on bottled sauces, which creates a wide discrepancy between the best and worst subs on their sandwich menu. This fat-laden faux-Philly sub is officially the worst on offer. For a leaner option, try the Roadhouse Steak Sammie. At a mere 195 calories, it’s the best, but none of them stray beyond the 300-calorie range.

7. THE WORST SANDWICH AT RUBY TUESDAY

Turkey Minis

1,058 calories
58 g fat
79 g carbohydrates

Generally, you can count on sandwiches to outperform wraps in the battle for nutritional honors, but Ruby’s Minis are the exception to the rule. If you must have Minis, order them as double. You’ll get two burgers instead of four, but you’ll also save a couple hundred calories. A better option is the Turkey Burger Wrap, which takes a rare (and nutritionally savvy) approach by using mustard in place of fatty mayonnaise. This move puts it hundreds of calories ahead of most other wraps in the country.

6. THE WORST SANDWICH AT SCHLOTZSKY’S

Original-Style Turkey Sandwich

831 calories
35 g fat (14 g saturated)
2,529 mg sodium

Half the medium subs on the menu break the 700-calorie barrier, and few sound as harmless as this one. The problem is the salami and three types of cheese. Eat a Smoked Turkey Breast Sandwich, instead. It has no secrets. Or, you can save nearly 300 calories and eat a delicious Mediterranean Pizza. Even with two types of cheese, this pizza competes with the best medium-size subs on the menu. Just be sure to keep your sodium in check for the rest of the day. Unfortunately, Schlotzsky’s has a bad habit of lacing their items with more salt than you should eat in one sitting.

5. THE WORST SANDWICH AT SONIC

Chicken Club Toaster Sandwich

740 calories
46 g fat (11 g saturated)
1,740 mg sodium

This sandwich suffers from a gut-bloating trio of cheese, bacon, and mayonnaise. You’re better off with any other Toaster Sandwich on the menu. That includes both the Bacon Cheeseburger and Country Fried Steak versions. Try the BLT Toaster instead. Bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches are far better than you’ve probably given them credit for. It has 170 fewer calories than any other Toaster Sandwich, making it one of the best sandwiches on Sonic’s menu.

4. THE WORST SANDWICH AT STARBUCK’S

Tarragon Chicken Salad Sandwich (with Grande Berry Chai Infusion)

740 calories
12 g fat (2 g saturated)
73 g sugar
1,335 mg sodium

We applaud Starbucks for using light mayo in their chicken salad, but it’s not enough to keep this sandwich from being the worst lunch option on the menu. What’s worse is the Berry Chai Infusion: It has more sugar than three Twinkies. Choose, instead, a sandwich prepared with pesto instead of mayonnaise. It decreases the quantity while increasing the quality of fats in your lunch—just be sure you don’t wash it down with a sugar-loaded beverage bomb. A cloyingly sweet drink is the fastest route to lunchtime disaster at Starbucks.

3. THE WORST LUNCH SANDWICH AT SUBWAY

Meatball Marinara

580 calories
23 g fat (9 g saturated)
1,660 mg sodium

Subway’s fat-loaded meatballs make this the biggest blemish on the restaurant’s menu. Go for a footlong, and you’re facing more than half your day’s calories, nearly the entire day’s saturated fat, and well over a day’s worth of sodium. Opt for the Steak and Cheese instead. This particular sub didn’t make the cut for the roundup of Jared’s Favorites, but that doesn’t make it a bad lunch option. In fact, crafting your sandwich with steak instead of chicken breast adds only 22 calories to your sub. That’s a manageable tariff for such a generous upgrade. Now pile on the produce.

2. WORST BREAKFAST SANDWICH AT SUBWAY

Sausage & Cheese Flatbread Breakfast Sandwich

740 calories
25 g fat (11 g saturated)
1,210 mg sodium

So you really love sausage? Okay, fine, but are you willing to gain 13 pounds a year over it? That’s exactly what you’re looking at if you make a choice like this three times a week. We’ll take the ham and pocket the calories every time. Go for the Black Forest Ham & Cheese Breakfast Sandwich. You won’t find a breakfast sandwich with fewer than 400 calories at Subway, and this one is you best option. But what gives these sandwiches good A.M. potential is the option to load them up with lunchtime fixings. Pile on the spinach, peppers, onions and anything else from the produce department.

1. WORST BREAKFAST SANDWICH AT WENDY’S

Chicken Club Sandwich

550 calories
26 g fat (8 g saturated)
1,290 mg sodium

The three strips of bacon, Swiss cheese, and a load of mayo are basically three types of fat on top of a piece of chicken that’s already been fried in fat. Any other chicken sandwich or wrap on the menu will save you at least 100 calories. Try, for example, the Spicy Chicken Fillet Sandwich. It’s a truly rare specimen; crispy fried chicken, slathered with mayo, with fewer than 500 calories. Wendy’s has somehow managed to pull off this feat of culinary craftsmanship, so if you want to indulge, this is the best way to do so without inflicting any waistline destruction.

So, the moral of this story is to just drink SHAKEOLOGY or pack your own lunch/dinner! www.myshakeology.com/turbokrys
